Text designer FAQ

Concise answers for players and server owners using this ServerBuddy utility.

What is a Minecraft MOTD?

The MOTD is the message shown for a server in the multiplayer server list. Servers often use it to show game modes, versions, events or short announcements.

Can a MOTD contain HTML?

No. Minecraft MOTDs use Minecraft formatting codes or chat components, not browser HTML. ServerBuddy escapes MOTD text before rendering it on public pages.

Should a MOTD be long?

Keep it short. A strong MOTD usually names the server, lists one or two main modes, and mentions the supported version or current event.
